OFF JAPAN
In March, 1944, while preparing to launch planes for a strike
against Kyushu, the 27-thousand ton aircraft carrier, Franklin,
is hit by two Japanese bombs which cause terrific damage. After
heroic efforts of her crew she is saved, though suffering the
greatest loss of life of any ship in the history of the United
States Navy. Two months later, her sister ship, the carrier Bunker
Hill is to experience a similar ordeal, almost as tragic, off
Okinawa. |
